It was designed\u2014and housing is where that design still lives.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"article-highlight\">\r\n      Housing is not just about shelter. It is about power, wealth, and access\u2014and Black Americans have been systematically locked out.\r\n    <\/div>\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"article-block full-width\">\r\n\r\n      <p>\r\n        Let\u2019s be clear: the racial wealth gap in America didn\u2019t just happen\u2014it was engineered. And nowhere is that engineering more visible than in housing.\r\n      <\/p>\r\n\r\n      <p>\r\n        Today, Black families are still denied mortgages at higher rates than white families, even when income is the same. That reality exposes something deeper than economics\u2014it reveals bias embedded within the system.\r\n      <\/p>\r\n\r\n    <\/div>\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"section-divider\">The Legacy of Redlining<\/div>\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"article-block full-width\">\r\n\r\n      <p>\r\n        The policies of the past have not disappeared. They have simply evolved.\r\n      <\/p>\r\n\r\n      <p>\r\n        Modern lending systems, credit scoring models, and appraisal processes continue to reflect patterns rooted in decades of discrimination.\r\n      <\/p>\r\n\r\n      <p>\r\n        Homes in Black neighborhoods are undervalued. Borrowers face stricter scrutiny. Interest rates are often higher.\r\n      <\/p>\r\n\r\n    <\/div>\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"article-highlight\">\r\n      This is not coincidence. This is continuity.\r\n    <\/div>\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"section-divider\">Gentrification and Displacement<\/div>\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"article-block full-width\">\r\n\r\n      <p>\r\n        At the same time, gentrification is reshaping Black communities across the country.\r\n      <\/p>\r\n\r\n      <p>\r\n        Neighborhoods once ignored are now seen as profitable\u2014but the people who sustained them are being pushed out.\r\n      <\/p>\r\n\r\n      <p>\r\n        Rising rents, increasing property taxes, and cultural erasure are not signs of progress. They are signs of displacement.\r\n      <\/p>\r\n\r\n    <\/div>\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"article-highlight\">\r\n      This isn\u2019t revitalization. It\u2019s displacement.\r\n    <\/div>\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"section-divider\">Housing Insecurity<\/div>\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"article-grid\">\r\n\r\n      <div class=\"article-block\">\r\n        <h3 id=\"evictions-and-homelessness\">Evictions and Homelessness<\/h3>\r\n\r\n        <p>\r\n          Black families face higher eviction rates and are disproportionately represented among the homeless population.\r\n        <\/p>\r\n\r\n        <p>\r\n          Housing instability continues to weaken economic security and long-term opportunity.\r\n        <\/p>\r\n      <\/div>\r\n\r\n      <div class=\"article-block\">\r\n        <h3 id=\"loss-of-stability\">Loss of Stability<\/h3>\r\n\r\n        <p>\r\n          Without stable housing, access to education, employment, and community support becomes more difficult.\r\n        <\/p>\r\n\r\n        <p>\r\n          Housing is the foundation that supports everything else.\r\n        <\/p>\r\n      <\/div>\r\n\r\n    <\/div>\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"section-divider\">Why Housing Matters<\/div>\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"article-block full-width\">\r\n\r\n      <p>\r\n        Housing is wealth. It determines access to schools, safety, and economic mobility.\r\n      <\/p>\r\n\r\n      <p>\r\n        When Black families are denied access to homeownership, they are denied access to generational wealth.\r\n      <\/p>\r\n\r\n      <p>\r\n        The result is not just inequality\u2014it is inequality that is passed down over time.\r\n      <\/p>\r\n\r\n    <\/div>\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"article-highlight\">\r\n      Strip housing access away, and you don\u2019t just limit opportunity\u2014you manufacture inequality.\r\n    <\/div>\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"section-divider\">What Justice Looks Like<\/div>\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"article-grid\">\r\n\r\n      <div class=\"article-block\">\r\n        <h3 id=\"accountability\">Accountability<\/h3>\r\n\r\n        <p>\r\n          Financial institutions must be held accountable for discriminatory practices.\r\n        <\/p>\r\n\r\n        <p>\r\n          Transparency in lending, approvals, and appraisals must be enforced.\r\n        <\/p>\r\n      <\/div>\r\n\r\n      <div class=\"article-block\">\r\n        <h3 id=\"investment\">Investment<\/h3>\r\n\r\n        <p>\r\n          Policies should support first-generation Black homebuyers through fair lending and financial assistance.\r\n        <\/p>\r\n\r\n        <p>\r\n          Community-based investment must replace exploitative development.\r\n        <\/p>\r\n      <\/div>\r\n\r\n      <div class=\"article-block\">\r\n        <h3 id=\"protection\">Protection<\/h3>\r\n\r\n        <p>\r\n          Stronger tenant protections and anti-displacement policies are necessary to keep families in their homes.\r\n        <\/p>\r\n\r\n        <p>\r\n          Housing stability must be prioritized over profit.\r\n        <\/p>\r\n      <\/div>\r\n\r\n      <div class=\"article-block\">\r\n        <h3 id=\"ownership\">Ownership<\/h3>\r\n\r\n        <p>\r\n          Collective ownership models like community land trusts and cooperative housing can create long-term stability.\r\n        <\/p>\r\n\r\n        <p>\r\n          Ownership builds power at both the individual and community level.\r\n        <\/p>\r\n      <\/div>\r\n\r\n    <\/div>\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"section-divider\">Final Reflection<\/div>\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"article-block full-width\">\r\n\r\n      <p>\r\n        This is not just an economic issue.
